Bass Fishing Education

Whether you are a beginner or an amateur bass angler who wants to improve his bass catching skills, the secrets to success are the following:

Bass Fishing Tackle

Some of the basic items you require are matching and corresponding reels, rods, lines, hooks, bait hooks, plastic bait or live bait/lures like worms, grubs, shad, weights and leaders, floats, tackle boxes, cleaning supplies, tackle lubricant, first aid kit, needle nose pillars, fishing knife and fishing net.

You also require two colors of each of a deep diver and a shallow diver as well as shockingly bright FLW Tour crank baits resembling baitfish. Your terminal tackle should include leaders, hooks, weights and swivels and remember to match the right terminal tackle with the corresponding current fishing conditions. Always remember to use hooks that are in good condition and sharp.

Bait and Food Source Eductaion

Dead fish as well as live fish like shad, cut bait (shad), shrimp, sardines, anchovies, plugs, spoons, crank baits and streamer flies are the different varieties of baits that you can try. The bait should be fresh. Grubs, frogs, lizards, crawfish, plastic worms, tube jigs should be used as baits in the afternoon.

Spinner baits and buzz baits are excellent options for the morning. During mid day spinner baits and crank baits will lure the bass from deep waters. If live bait is not a viable option, using plastic worms will yield great results.

Habits, Habitat, Time and Seasonal Patterns

Bass prefers to swim around in schools. The spot where you met with great success a day before, will yield you a turkey the very next day for basses tend to cover huge distances of water every day while following their food. Crystal clear water of fast moving rivers, sparkling lakes, estuaries, bays, creeks, rather than muddy water ,is preferred by bass , but striped bass get more easily spooked than the large mouth variety. You will drive bass away into deeper waters if you make noise.

Bass fishes are usually found to prowl or lurk around submerged rocks, docks, duck blinds, rocky points, overhanging brush, floating islands of bulrushes, lilies and tulles, downed trees or weed beds.

Overcast days with a moderate wind, that results in a slightly choppy water surface will entice a large mouth bass .late evening and early mornings are the ideal times to hunt for them.

You have to troll deeper waters if you are fishing in summer. In winter, bass will swim close to the surface in search of bait fish and warmer waters. During fall, as the water progressively cools, you have to pull up your bait into shallower waters. Even in spring they will be staying in warmer waters.

These are only some of the basic fishing tips gleaned from seasoned bass fishermen. You have to continuously update your knowledge by reading books and articles but your best classroom is the dock i.e. practical hands-on experience. Relentless practice, eagerness to learn and an open mind are the best tools of education.
