How To Make Fishing Lures Quickly And Easily
With fishing becoming one of the favorite pastimes it is inevitable that some of you may even be pondering over the thought of making your own fishing lures. Here are some tips on how to make fishing lures. Enjoy the experience.
Molds for spoon making
If you want to make your own spoons you need not buy any readymade molds. You can try your hand at making spoons from the scraps of wood that you find lying around. You can take some spoons from your tackle box to use as guides for tracing their shapes onto the scraps of wood. Make the outlines oversized for your mold as spoons are not flat in shape.
Now scrape out to make the shape of your choice and rub with sandpaper to make it smooth. You can use a hammer and some scraps of sheet metal for pounding your spoon. Now trim it, file the edges and add it to your hardware. You can have several similar fishing lure molds of different shapes.
Spinners
You can make some fabulous spinners with the devices meant for bending the wires. But if you do not want to spend money you can try making your own fishing lures. You can use the same discarded scraps of wood and pummel some nails into the ends. You have to try experimenting with bending of the eyelets. Once you are done with that you need to put the scrap of wood sideways inside a vise to saw off the heads on the nails.
Paint design on wooden lures
You can use some nylons in the house for designing patterns on your lures. Taking an airbrush you can use these nylons for some attractive designs on the sides of your wooden lures.
Seal the wooden plugs before painting
You can use some wood sealer from your local store and later sand it down with fine sandpaper or a brown paper bag. Wood sealers make the grain of the wood rise giving a very uneven finish. You can make some really attractive fishing lures.
Make your own plastic fishing lures
You can create your own plastic fishing lures by purchasing some molds and pouring melted plastic into the molds tilted in an angle to avoid formation of air bubbles. Allow the mold to cool and thereafter place your worm made of plastic in water.
You can add glitter to make your lures attractive. If you want to make your own plastic lures then you can use Plastic of Paris for making the mold. First create the mold’s 2 halves. Now take a master worm out of your tackle box or make one from clay used for modelling.
Before you placei the worm inside one portion of the mold be sure to coat it with either vegetable oil or Vaseline so as to prevent the worm from sticking to the mold. Place the plastic worm carefully into the mold keeping an eye for any existing seams.
Now use some nails to finish off the work into the mold that is semi set. Now place the other portion of the mold on top and fasten them together allowing it to set overnight. Once the plaster is permanently set and the main worm is removed, create a channel for pouring in the liquid plastic and then make sure the mold is sealed properly. Your fishing lure is ready.
