Fly Fishing Step By Step Instructions
Fly fishing can be quite a challenging sport and if you pay heed to some tips you can be equally adept in this field as well. Here we share a few fly fishing step by step instructions to get you geared and prepared for the whole process.
Practice casting
You need to develop your casting skills for your success and for that you need to practice continuously. You can practice outside your house by hanging a clock on the wall. Place some markers on certain positions and try casting at these positions. With consistent practice you will develop accuracy and style.
Hold the rod correctly
You should hold the rod in the best manner. You should have a control over the rod without tightening your grip on it. You can make your hold adjustable in the middle of the cast. This prevents vibrations caused due to any movement. In due course you will learn to manipulate the tightening and relaxing of your grip on the rod.
Using dry flies during afternoon
If you wish to go fly fishing in the afternoon then you should use dry flies. During this time the water and air becomes warm which invites a lot of black flies. Your fly will look exactly like the real ones and improves your chances of luring the fish quickly.
Allow the dry flies to float for longer periods
Make your dry flies float longer and higher by making them waterproof. You can either use Scotch-guard that is meant for protecting furniture or any boot water proofer bought from any shop selling sport items. Spray your flies with these and let them dry overnight and use it the following day.
Some tools for tying flies
You need a bobbin to hold the thread when you are tying it. You also need a vice to hold the hook, hackle pliers to hold the delicate feathers in place, a sharp pair of scissors with needle points for trimming and cutting, a half-hitch tool and bodkin to tie the half-hitch knot, a clip for holding all the materials tightly in place and a head cement for the finishing touch and for gluing.
Tying knots efficiently
Make sure that you moisten your knots before tightening them as all knots do not have the desired strength. For durable and strong knots you should not make haste while tightening them, and pull hard at every knot to test it. Also make eliminate the frays that are weakened.
Pay attention to your vest
The fishing vest that you will be wearing to carry your tackle should be arranged so that you do not have to search for anything. If you do not intend using it leave it behind.
Insect Repellant
Avoid clothes that are stark in colors such as reds, yellows, black, whites or blues as they can attract flies, insects and mosquitoes. Also carry a can of insect repellant.
Follow the basics
Carry only one or two small boxes of flies for fishing. The experienced use only a floating line and keep their tackle to the bare minimum. Do not try too many new patterns.
